Who is North Star?
We are a new but ambitious real estate firm, based in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn.  Currently, we represent a variety of residential and commercial spaces in surrounding neighborhoods, including Boerum Hill, Carroll Gardens, Park Slope, Fort Greene, and Brooklyn Heights, but will soon be expanding deeper into Brooklyn and across to Manhattan. 

 

Who are we looking for?
The ideal candidate is personable, organized, independent and a true go-getter.    We don’t necessarily need to see extensive real estate experience, but we do need evidence of professionalism and an eagerness to learn.  We’d also appreciate a healthy sense of humor and a positive attitude.

As you may have already learned, a large company with hundreds of agents is not for everyone.  These companies often have limited time and space to offer personalized guidance to their agents, which can leave some people feeling, unsupported and overwhelmed.  While we certainly need you to have the confidence and drive to perform independently, we are eager to contribute to your professional development and will always be available to lend a helping hand where you need one.

 

How much can you expect to make?
Our commission splits begin at 50% from day one.  With incentives, you can easily earn up to 75%.  If you have experience in this industry, or at least have done your homework, you know this is a far more generous split than what most other agencies are offering.

We believe the best way to motivate our agents is to put as much money in their pockets as possible.  The harder we all work, the more we all make.  It’s that simple.  Our inventory is extensive. Working with North Star you officially become a member of the Real Estate Board of New York which gives you unlimited access to Sales and Rental Listings from the 90% of brokerages in NYC. We also provide tons of marketing tools and very discounted rates for ads placed on Craigslist, Brownstoner, and the prestigious New York Times.

 

What is the work environment like?
At North Star, we try to strike the balance between autonomy and teamwork.  We offer support when you need it and step aside when you’re ready to roll.  Real estate can be a grind like anything else, but we try to have a good time with the work and each other.   We definitely do not fit the real estate stereotypes – no pressure tactics or cut-throat attitudes.  Instead, we just focus on helping people find good places to build their businesses and homes, recognizing that happy customers (and enthusiastic referrals) are the best way for us to grow. 

 

Where would I work?
We are currently operating out of our storefront office in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn located at 235 Court Street. We are exploring options for a Manhattan location with plans to open in Fall 2015.  We also promote a healthy mix of office time and some work from home, though much of our job is done out in the streets.
